“The One on the Roadside”: A Story of God’s Redirection

Sometimes, God works in ways we least expect. Last year, Living Word Foundation arrived at a village ready to host a scheduled Gospel program, only to find that a funeral was in progress. What could have been a canceled day became an unforgettable moment of divine intervention.

Praying for an Unexpected Opportunity

As the team walked down the road, they prayed earnestly, asking God to provide an unexpected opportunity to share the Gospel despite the change in plans. They trusted that His purpose would prevail, even when the program they had prepared for could not take place.

A Gathering at the Roadside Tea Shop

Their prayers were soon answered in a humble and intimate way. The team stopped at a roadside tea shop, where a few curious men, all Hindu, gathered around. As the group grew to about fifteen men, the shop owner graciously allowed the team to sit behind the shop, under a single lightbulb, to talk and share.

In this small, informal setting, Josh and Uttam shared the Gospel clearly and lovingly with everyone present. The atmosphere was quiet, expectant, and sacred — a stark contrast to the large, packed halls of typical outreach programs.

One Life Changed Forever

When it came time for an invitation, one man courageously raised his hand to profess faith in Jesus, despite being surrounded by his peers. This single act of faith opened the door for further discipleship. He invited the team to walk with him down the road to his home, where Josh and Uttam explained salvation once again, ensuring he fully understood the gift of eternal life.

That evening, this man received Christ as his Savior. It was a small, intimate moment, yet one of profound significance — a life forever changed. Josh reflects on this story, saying it is a moment he will never forget.

The Power of the One

This experience stands as a beautiful reminder of God’s sovereignty and the value of every single life. While large events reach hundreds or thousands, sometimes God’s work shines brightest in the quiet, personal encounters that seem small to the world but enormous in His Kingdom.

As Matthew 18:12–14 reminds us:
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?”

In that roadside tea shop, God left the 99 for the one. That one soul mattered. That one life was worth every prayer, every step, and every moment of waiting on Him.
